Dr Nidheesh S

Dr. Nidheesh Suresh is an interdisciplinary scholar whose work moves across coastal and urban spatialities, critical geography, labour, and everyday life. He explores how social worlds are co-produced through power, materiality, and situated practices, bringing together relational and spatial thinking. Guided by Prof. Solomon J. Benjamin at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, his doctoral research focuses on the co-production of land and sea in coastal Kerala, showing how memory, power relations, and socio-environmental transformations shape dynamic coastal spatialities.

Nidheesh’s recent research extends these concerns to transnational urbanisation, e-waste, used electronics, territoriality and ethnicity, following the artefacts and the networks of people who circulate them across regions such as Dubai and Sharjah. His narrative-driven approach to critical studies is enriched by a sensitivity to stories, memories, and the materiality of objects.

Methodologically, he works with Constructivist Grounded Theory (CGT), drawing inspiration from Kathy Charmaz. In teaching, he integrates films, stories, soundscapes, and photography to make abstract ideas in critical geography more experiential. Passionate about storytelling workshops, he uses these creative methods in both classrooms and field presentations.
